What is Vodafone UK?
Vodafone UK is one of four UK mobile network operators, owning its own 2G/4G/5G radio network and running both consumer and wholesale businesses. It is the founding operating company of Vodafone Group plc, the multinational headquartered in Newbury, Berkshire, and serves around 18 million UK mobile customers directly plus several million more through host-network MVNOs.
Vodafone was launched in 1985 as a joint venture between Racal Electronics and a US/UK consortium, and placed the UK's first mobile call on 1 January 1985 from St Katharine Docks in London.
