Talkmobile
Updated May 14, 2026 · By Jules de Bruin · Vodafone-owned UK MVNO selling sub-£10 SIM-only plans with no mid-contract price rise.
What is Talkmobile?
Talkmobile is a UK mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) wholly owned by Vodafone Group and run from Vodafone's Newbury headquarters. It sells SIM-only plans only — there are no handset contracts, no shops, and no separate customer service line outside the website and app. Every plan rides on the same Vodafone 4G and 5G radio network that powers Vodafone-branded contracts.
The brand originally launched in 2007 as a Carphone Warehouse MVNO. After Vodafone acquired the customer base, it was relaunched as a Vodafone in-house value sub-brand in 2018, positioned between full-fat Vodafone Pay Monthly and the social-data brand VOXI. Today Talkmobile competes head-on with SMARTY, Lebara, Lyca, 1pMobile and Asda Mobile in the sub-£10 SIM-only segment, and was named a Which? Recommended Provider in 2026 on the basis of price, contract terms and customer satisfaction.
Key facts
What makes Talkmobile cheap?
Talkmobile's sub-£10 pricing is structural, not a temporary promotion. Three cost levers explain the gap to Vodafone-branded plans on the identical network.
- Digital-only distribution. Talkmobile has no high-street stores, no field sales team and no inbound phone support — sign-up, top-up and account management all happen on the website or app. The retail cost base that funds Vodafone Pay Monthly is stripped out entirely.
- SIM-only, 1-month rolling. There are no subsidised handsets, no 24-month lock-ins and no credit checks of the depth a contract requires. Customers churn freely, but the operator avoids the working capital cost of bundling phones.
- Wholesale economics inside Vodafone Group. Talkmobile pays an internal transfer price for radio access rather than a third-party MVNO wholesale rate. That is the same trick Tesco Mobile uses on O2 and how VOXI sits inside Vodafone — the parent fills spare capacity at marginal cost.
The second selling point is contract certainty. Unlike Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three pay-monthly tariffs — which raise prices every April by CPI plus a fixed percentage — Talkmobile prices are locked for the duration of the plan term. Because every plan is 1-month rolling, the practical effect is that the price you sign up at is the price you keep until you choose to change tariff. That is the policy that earned the Which? Recommended Provider badge in 2026.
EU roaming is also included rather than charged as an add-on, which is the post-Brexit default at Vodafone, EE and O2. Talkmobile's fair-use roaming allowance scales with the plan and runs up to 25 GB across the EU-27 plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Switzerland is not in the roam-like-at-home zone — expect daily charges there, same as on every UK operator.
Where does Talkmobile appear on SimCompare365?
Talkmobile shows up across the UK section wherever the comparison set includes value MVNOs on the Vodafone network. The brand is most relevant on cheap-SIM and no-price-rise filters — it is generally not the pick for heavy international calling (Lebara and Lyca rank ahead there) or for endless social data (VOXI on the same Vodafone network).

Frequently Asked Questions
Which network does Talkmobile use? expand_more
Talkmobile runs on the Vodafone UK 4G and 5G network. Coverage, masts and speeds are identical to a Vodafone-branded SIM in the same location — Talkmobile is a sub-brand of Vodafone Group, not a third-party reseller. Check Vodafone's coverage checker to see what 4G/5G looks like at your postcode before switching.
Does Talkmobile raise prices mid-contract? expand_more
No. Talkmobile prices are locked for the term of the plan and the brand does not apply the annual April CPI-plus-percent uplift used by Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three pay-monthly tariffs. Because every plan is 1-month rolling, the price you sign up at is the price you continue to pay until you choose to switch tariff. This is the policy Which? cited when naming Talkmobile a Recommended Provider in 2026.
Does Talkmobile work in the EU? expand_more
Yes. EU roaming is included at no extra charge across the EU-27 plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, with a fair-use cap that scales by plan up to 25 GB. Calls and texts back to the UK are treated as roam-like-at-home. Switzerland sits outside the EU roaming zone and is billed separately — this applies on every UK operator, not just Talkmobile.
Does Talkmobile support eSIM? expand_more
Yes. Talkmobile supports eSIM activation on compatible handsets (recent iPhones, Pixels and most flagship Android phones from Samsung and Google). Customers can switch from a physical SIM to eSIM from inside the account area. The same 1-month rolling contract terms and price-lock apply.
Talkmobile vs VOXI: what's the difference? expand_more
Both brands are owned by Vodafone Group and run on the Vodafone network. Talkmobile targets shoppers who want the lowest monthly price with no mid-contract rise. VOXI targets younger users who want Endless Social Data (zero-rated WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, etc.). Pick Talkmobile for a sub-£10 general SIM; pick VOXI if your usage is dominated by social and chat apps and the zero-rating saves more than the price gap.
