Sky Mobile

Updated May 14, 2026 · By Jules de Bruin · UK MVNO from Sky UK on the O2 network, bundled with Sky TV and broadband subscriptions.

Updated May 2026. Sky Mobile is a UK MVNO operated by Sky UK, a wholly owned Comcast subsidiary, that launched in 2017 and runs on the O2 (Telefonica UK) 4G and 5G network. SIM-only Mix plans start at GBP 6 per month for 2 GB and rise to unlimited data tiers. Its two signature mechanics are Roll Data — unused gigabytes roll into a Piggybank for up to 3 years — and the Sky bundle discount that cuts the SIM price for existing Sky TV or Broadband customers.

What is Sky Mobile?

Sky Mobile is a UK MVNO operated by Sky UK, the Comcast-owned satellite TV and broadband group. It launched in January 2017 and resells O2's 4G and 5G network to existing Sky customers and stand-alone SIM buyers, with a product designed around data rollover and TV bundling rather than headline price.

Sky UK had been Britain's largest pay-TV operator for two decades before launching mobile, and the carrier was positioned from day one as a retention play: keep Sky TV subscribers inside the Sky billing relationship by adding a fourth product line next to TV, Broadband and the Sky Talk landline. The wholesale agreement with Telefonica UK (O2) gives Sky Mobile customers the same masts, the same 5G footprint and the same EU roaming arrangement as O2's own Pay Monthly base, with no separate Sky-owned radio infrastructure.

The plan family is called Sky Mobile Mix. Tariffs are 1-month rolling SIM-only contracts (no exit fee) plus 24- or 36-month handset finance through a separate Sky Mobile Swap Plan. The two mechanics that define the brand are the Piggybank — unused data rolling forward for up to 36 months — and the Sky-customer multiproduct discount that cuts the headline SIM price by a fixed amount per month when the SIM is billed alongside a qualifying Sky TV or Broadband subscription. Stand-alone (non-Sky) sign-ups are accepted but pay the full retail rate.

What's the Sky bundle discount?

Existing Sky TV and Sky Broadband customers pay a lower monthly rate on every Sky Mobile Mix plan — historically around GBP 5 per month off — when the SIM is billed to the same Sky account. The discount applies for as long as the qualifying Sky product stays active and stacks across multiple SIMs on one account.

The economic logic of Sky Mobile is built around this discount. Sky is willing to give up margin on the SIM in exchange for raising the customer's total monthly Sky spend and lowering churn on TV and broadband — the household products that carry much higher contribution per subscriber. Internally Sky reports Mobile as part of the "multiproduct" segment rather than as a standalone telco line.

Sign-up is gated through the Sky.com account flow. Customers who do not already hold a Sky TV or Broadband subscription can still buy a Sky Mobile SIM, but they pay the published retail price with no discount applied. The Piggybank, EU roaming and Roll Data mechanics work identically for both customer groups; only the headline price differs.

The other half of the value proposition is Roll Data. Every unused gigabyte at the end of a billing month is moved into a personal Piggybank, where it remains usable for up to 36 months. Customers can pull data out of the Piggybank at any time, gift it to another Sky Mobile SIM on the same account, or cash it in for credit against Sky TV / Broadband bills through the "Swap Data for Rewards" mechanic. That makes Sky Mobile structurally generous for light data users who would otherwise waste their monthly allowance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What network does Sky Mobile use? expand_more

Sky Mobile is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator that runs entirely on the O2 (Telefonica UK) 4G and 5G network. Sky UK does not own any of its own radio masts or spectrum; coverage, indoor signal and 5G availability match what an O2 retail customer would experience in the same location.

How does Roll Data work? expand_more

Any data you do not use in a calendar month is automatically moved into your Sky Mobile Piggybank, where it remains available for up to 3 years (36 months). You can pull it back into your allowance at any time, gift it to another SIM on the same Sky account, or swap accumulated data for credit toward Sky TV and Broadband bills.

Can you join Sky Mobile without Sky TV? expand_more

Yes. Stand-alone SIMs are sold to customers who do not subscribe to Sky TV or Sky Broadband, but they pay the full Mix retail price with no discount. To qualify for the lower bundled rate you need an active Sky TV, Sky Broadband or Sky Glass subscription billed to the same Sky account.

Does Sky Mobile include EU roaming? expand_more

Yes. Sky Mobile is one of the UK operators that did not reintroduce EU roaming surcharges after Brexit. Allowance, minutes and texts work in EU-27 destinations plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway up to a fair-use data cap (around 25 GB per month). Switzerland is out of scope and charged separately.

Does Sky Mobile support eSIM? expand_more

Yes. Sky Mobile supports eSIM activation on compatible handsets (recent iPhones, Pixels and Samsung Galaxy models). Existing customers can convert a physical SIM to eSIM, or use both in parallel for dual-SIM setups, through the Sky Mobile app.
