Was ist das?

connect Netztest is the most-cited independent mobile network test in the German-speaking telecoms market. It is conducted annually by German telecoms publication connect (WEKA Fachmedien) in partnership with measurement firm umlaut (formerly P3 communications, now part of Accenture).

The methodology combines three measurement layers: drive tests with calibrated measurement equipment across cities and rural areas, voice quality scoring using POLQA, and crowdsourced data from consumer app users. Results are scored across multiple dimensions (voice quality, data throughput, availability, urban performance, rural performance) and aggregated into a final grade.

The 2025 German ranking placed Telekom first (sehr gut) for the 13th consecutive year, with Vodafone and O2 both grading sehr gut, and 1&1 fourth. The gap between Telekom and Vodafone has narrowed steadily; the gap to 1&1 is largest in rural areas where 1&1 is still building its own network.

connect also publishes separate annual tests for Austria and Switzerland, providing the equivalent benchmarks for those markets.
