About PostIdent
In-person identity verification at Deutsche Post branches.
Key facts
What is it?
PostIdent is Deutsche Post AG's in-person identity-verification service. It complies with German Geldwäschegesetz (anti-money laundering law) and serves as the fallback for any process that requires verified customer identity - most commonly SIM activation, bank account opening, and insurance contracts.
The flow is straightforward: the provider issues a PostIdent coupon with a unique reference number. The customer prints or shows the coupon on their phone, brings a valid photo ID (passport, national ID, residence permit), and walks into any of approximately 13,000 Deutsche Post branches across Germany.
Branch staff scan the coupon, verify the ID, photograph the documents, and submit the result to Deutsche Post's back-end. The provider receives the verified-identity confirmation typically within 24 hours and activates the customer's service.
PostIdent is the right choice when VideoIdent has failed twice, when the customer doesn't have a smartphone or stable internet, or simply when face-to-face verification is preferred.
