Lyca Mobile is a London-headquartered prepaid MVNO group founded in 2006 by Allirajah Subaskaran. It operates in more than 20 countries, leases capacity from a different host network in each market (EE in the UK, O2 in Germany, A1 in Austria), and competes almost exclusively on the price of international calls to South Asia, West Africa and the Western Balkans.
The group runs a uniform commercial playbook in every country: prepaid-only SIMs, 28-day billing cycles, bundled international minutes baked into mid-tier plans, and aggressive distribution through ethnic kiosks, supermarkets and corner shops alongside online sign-up. Unlike Lebara, which leans Vodafone-heavy across Europe, Lyca Mobile spreads its host relationships across all three carrier families. That gives Lyca more pricing flexibility in any given country but also means coverage and 5G access vary noticeably between markets. In Germany the host is Telefónica with verified 5G; in the UK it is EE; in Austria it sits on A1's network.
The group is also an MVNE for itself — it owns its own switching, billing and least-cost-routing platform, which is why its per-minute rates to long-haul destinations are routinely a fraction of what tier-one MNOs publish on their international tariffs.
