What is it?

congstar is Deutsche Telekom's in-house mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), launched in 2007 to address the price-sensitive segment without diluting the premium Telekom brand. It is a 100%-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG.

congstar runs on the same physical Telekom cell sites as Telekom-branded plans, with identical coverage and signal availability. The trade-off is a 25 Mbit/s prepaid speed cap compared to Telekom-branded prepaid's uncapped 300 Mbit/s. For most consumers (web, social, video at HD) the cap is invisible.

The verified prepaid ladder runs from XS at EUR 5/4w through to L at EUR 12/4w for 45 GB, with a Jahrespaket of 240 GB for EUR 100/year that matches Telekom's own annual deal at a 5-cent discount. congstar also offers Prepaid wie ich will - a custom build-your-own tariff from EUR 2/4w.

Beyond its own brand, congstar provides the services stack behind multiple supermarket MVNOs: ja! mobil (REWE), Penny Mobil, NORMA connect, and KAUFLAND MOBIL. Same underlying network, same speed caps, different retail flag.
